19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his maiden title for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- world number one, has endured a challenging year, managing just one match at the major tournaments and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.
Currently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy since the Rome competition and initial on a hard court from spring of that year.
Success also means the Russian has secured 21 championships at twenty-one different competitions.
"For the first time I'm at a competition with my children simultaneously, so to secure a title is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my second daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I won when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his past six finals, featuring in that event in the past months.
His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted some to question if his capacity to play at the elite level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, backed up by an better service.
He fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the tricky opponent, taking four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players swapped breaks in the middle set before Moutet, striving for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
Moutet saved 4 initial break points in a competitive final set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Suitably, he earned the title with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
